Natural Hair Caring Products
By Jason Enders
Many people resort to natural hair care products thinking that it would be safe for their hair because it came from natural materials like plants. However, what exactly defines a product natural or organic as these hair care brands have been saying on their labels?
Which Hair Care Products to Use
When choosing hair care products be sure to read the label carefully. Most of the time, extracts like different types of oil used for shampoo are just their synthetic version. In the same way a lot of these plant extracts are already washed several times before it even gets to your shampoo bottle and so its natural effects are already stripped off.
What about the vitamins and minerals that they include in the package. Actually a lot of debates have been going on about this because they say that vitamins could not actually penetrate and cause any bioactivity on natural hair. They are said to simply improve temporarily its physical appearance but further than that they are said not to have any other benefits.
However, we cannot say that natural hair care products are safe just because they are free from chemicals. Because there are essential chemicals that are into your shampoo like making sure they lather enough or that their shelf-life lasts longer.
And so to be considered safe and natural what should one look for in their hair product labels? Forget about those green recyclable bottles that they come in, or that fancy picture in the forest that comes in the label. The labels will tell you the real deal.
Shampoos and Ingrediants
Shampoos are usually made of the following ingredients:
Ammonium chloride
Ammonium lauryl sulfate
Glycol
Sodium laureth sulfate
Sodium lauryl sulfate
The most common of which is the combination of SLS with Cocamidopropyl betaine to create that thick liquid form. Please take note of these ingredients that have been found to cause some harmful effects on the skin.
Diethanolamine
Propylene Glycol
SLS or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
Natural Hair Products and Cancer
These ingredients when combined with nitrogen-based ingredients that are common in shampoos cause skin irritation and even cancer.
These products when combined with other ingredients that are usually found in hair products may become cancerous. Even in small dosages these are said to cause cancer, skin irritation, and many other side effects. The restrictions with hair and beauty products are not as strict as they should be and so in reality product manufacturers could put in whatever they want in their bottles unknowingly. That is why it is up to the consumer to be on their guard with regards to harmful ingredients. For your safety read the labels on your natural hair care products.
